Why the 1970 Chevelle SS Deserves Its Own Moon

Some cars don’t just exist in the world — they loom over it. The 1970 Chevelle SS is one of those machines. It’s the kind of car that doesn’t roll into a parking lot so much as arrive, carrying decades of stories, memories, and myth on its shoulders. Its stance, its stripes, the cowl-induction hood rising like a battle crest — everything about it feels larger than life.

That’s why it became the next subject in my Three Moon series. Because legends deserve their own moon.

The Spark: When a Legend Calls Your Name

Every piece in this series begins with a simple question: Which machine has earned a place in the night sky? The Chevelle answered immediately.

For many of us, the ’70 SS wasn’t just a car — it was the poster on the garage wall, the dream build, the one you still turn your head for at a stoplight. It’s a car that shaped generations of gearheads, and it carries a presence that’s impossible to ignore. The moment I pictured it under three rising moons, the whole concept locked into place.

The Challenge: Showing a Legend From Every Angle

When a car carries this much myth and muscle, a single view could never tell the whole story. The Chevelle’s power isn’t just in its stance or its stripes — it’s in the way every line flows into the next. The long sweep of the quarter panels, the aggressive nose, the unmistakable rear end… each angle reveals a different part of its character.

That’s why the Three Moon format works so well here. Three angles. Three perspectives. Three chances to honor the legend.

Instead of choosing one “best” view, this design lets the Chevelle be seen the way enthusiasts know it: as a machine you walk around slowly, taking in every curve, every shadow, every detail. The front 3/4 shows its intent. The side profile shows its strength. The rear 3/4 shows its attitude.

A car like this deserves to be experienced from all sides — and the Three Moon layout gives it the stage it deserves.

The Mood: A Creature Built for the Night

The Three Moon series blends folklore, garage-poster nostalgia, and cosmic Americana. For the Chevelle, I wanted it to feel like it was emerging from the darkness — chrome catching moonlight, body lines glowing like a beast built for the night.

There’s a specific energy to those 90s airbrushed posters many of us grew up with. The Chevelle brings a heavier, more muscular presence to that vibe. The moons aren’t decoration; they’re witnesses.

The Reveal: Two Sides of the Same Legend

This piece exists in two versions, each with its own personality:

  • Black Chevelle — the shadow beast.
Dark, aggressive, and almost predatory. It feels like the kind of car you’d hear before you see.
  • Fathom Blue Chevelle — the moonlit warrior.
Cooler, reflective, with metallic highlights glowing under the lunar light. It feels like a legend stepping into the open.

Both versions tell the same story, but each one speaks to a different kind of fan.

The Collector Angle: Building a Pantheon

The Chevelle joins the growing Three Moon series — a collection built around machines that have earned their place in automotive mythology. Each piece is a tribute to a different legend, and each one adds to the universe this series is creating.
The Chevelle isn’t just another design.

It’s the next chapter in a larger story — one that collectors can follow as it grows.
